It started with a dare. In 1994 a co-worker dared me to run a 5k. I was 43. I nearly died, well maybe not but I felt as if I would! In 2000 I volunteered as a bus loader for the NYC Marathon and was motivated by the enthusiam exuded by runners from around the world that I commited to running the race in 2001. I learned quickly that one race a year wasn't enough, nor were two or three....you get the picture. I also realized that this sport gives us the very best opportunity to see our country and the world. By 2010, 26.2 wasn't even enough so I crossed over to the dark side of ultras. In 2013 I dipped my toes into multi-day events, first 3 days (72 hours), then 6 days (144 hours), then 10 days.....by 2018 I had really become obsessed and registered for and completed the Last Annual Vol State 500k (314 miles) across Tennessee in the middle of July WITHOUT a crew! Since then I have completed this race a total of 3 times in 4 attempts.I've completed a marathon in each of the 7 continents TWICE and in each of the U.S states 4 times, with "just 12 states remaining" to complete the 5th circuit.Like you, I am one very lucky person. I am able to combine my love of running, geocaching and traveling. Marathoning has allowed me to meet people and become friends with really wonderful people from around the world.
