A Message from the Board

In the last two years there has been an increase in the number of races being offered by numerous race directors in hard to obtain countries or as marathon series (countries that do not have a marathon or the time cutoffs are too short for some of our members). Many of these races have been advertised on the WhatsApp feed “Run The World”.  This has been good for our sport, as it allows runners to increase their country count or complete a country that might not have otherwise been attainable.  However, some of the races being offered do not meet (or were not meant to meet) Marathon Globetrotters rules. To help avoid the situation where a member runs one of these races only to find out that it will not count, the board would like to remind each member that it is their responsibility to ensure that the race that they wish to sign up for will meet MG rules.  While all of the rules are important, rules where problems are often encountered are: the 10 finisher rule, presence of a non runner time/lap counter, race time cut-off not being met, 60 day advance publication of a race, and race results not posted on a website. If you discover a noncompliant race communicate with the race director immediately and encourage him/her to follow MG rules. (https://marathonglobetrotters.org/qualification/rules/). Don’t count on the exception process.  The board is increasingly taking the position that exceptions need to be truly exceptional.
